Shirley Cruz Traña (born August 28th, 1985) is a Costa Rican soccer player that joined Lyon in January 2006 having previously played for the women’s team of Costa Rican UCEM Alajuela and played as a creative midfielder. She is also a member of the Costa Rican women’s national football team, making her first major tournament appearance with her nation at the 2002 CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup, which served as a qualifying tournament for the 2003 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

LEGACY:

As a Costa Rican soccer player, she has played with the French club Paris Saint-Germain FC of the Women’s Division. Previously, she played for Olympique Lyon, winning six times the French League, two French Cups and two Champions Leagues. Her name is known throughout Costa Rica and beyond. An example of how through a sports discipline, human beings overcome and succeed, after defeating a series of obstacles due to gender discrimination.
